Bok Fu is a martial art that combines various fighting concepts from several martial arts to create a complete system of self defense. Bok Fu is always evolving in order to become a more effective martial art so that our students can learn to defend themselves in any situation.

The style of Bok Fu was founded in early 70’s by Grandmaster Richard Lee. Richard Lee is a 10th degree black belt in Chinese Kenpo under Grandmaster Al Tracy. Bok Fu has its roots in Chinese Kenpo however, Lee’s experiences studying martial arts around the world have contributed to the development of Bok Fu. For a complete history on Bok Fu please visit

In our Bok Fu classes students learn individual techniques such as strikes, blocks, traps, throws, and joint locks as well as combinations known as self defense techniques. A self defense technique teaches students how to utilize their individual techniques in a combination that can best defend them from a specific attack such as a punch or grab.

We also teach Kata. A Kata is a martial arts routine designed to teach students proper technique and form. Kata is a great tool to help kids focus and work on memory. For adults it strengthens and conditions the body.

Our Little Tigers program is designed for children ages 4 and 5. We teach our little tiger students basic coordination, listening, and martial arts skills that they will need when they become old enough to attend the regular kids classes. We try to keep these classes small so that each student may receive the best personal instruction possible.

We accept children from ages 5 to 12 years old. We use a challenging but fun program that not only develops their martial arts skill but reinforces the values of respect and hard work that is taught by parents at home. We also stress to our students when it is okay use their martial arts for self defense. Before beginning the first lesson we make a promise with our students that they should never misuse the martial art that we teach them but to only use it if someone is physically trying to harm them and there is no other way to avoid the fight.

In the beginner classes, students learn the basics and fundamentals of Bok Fu. Kids are taught respect in terms that they can understand. We explain respect as showing kindness and care to someone or something. We reinforce with definition by asking the kids to use words such as “please” and “thank you”. Students also participate in activities that provide exercise, increase coordination, develops focus, and are also fun for the kids.

As the kids progress into the intermediate and advanced classes their martial arts skills are refined and sharpened. There is more emphasis on proper technique, form, and discipline. Though these classes are a bit more serious than the beginner classes the kids still get to have fun.

In addition to learning practical self defense techniques, our adults classes are great for getting exercise. Most adults want a great workout but also want to do something different than going to they gym. Martial arts is a great way to increase muscle tone, endurance, flexibility, and overall health.

Our adults classes are broken up into two half hour segments. The first half hour is what we call a technical class. In a technical classes students learn their martial arts techniques and how to apply them. In the second half hour students do a fitness and conditioning class. In the fitness and conditioning class students do both strength and cardio training. We also most of our kick and punch training during this class.
